A Couple Tricks and Techniques...

So, my awesome friend Arin added me to this really cool group on Facebook called, Let's Talk Makeup. Few thousand fans, mostly ladies, talking about the industry. But, they also like to post selfies and ask questions. And the other girls are all so awesome in response! They share great tips, great schemes, secrets, products, sales, rants, etc. You get it. Anyways, I have learned a ton over there! And met some really cool ladies!

The last few days I have also been doing more research not only on the products I am using and selling, but the techniques used to acheive results I want to have and when trying new things. And I thought it would be cool to share a few of the things I picked up on and have been practicing, with y'all:)

First of all, I just want to start by saying, your face is really just a canvas. And if you look at your makeup like paint, it helps a ton. Each area of your face is just a section of the canvas you have to fill in to look like what you want it to, shading, highlighting, lines, whatever, right? That's your face. So, when applying makeup, blending and defined lines are important parts, too. Right? Right. That is a hack right there! When you start to think of doing your makeup like creating a masterpiece everyday, you will see improvement right away!

That being said, here's a few new tricks of the trade that have worked for me. Maybe they will work for you too...

1. Primer first. Then cream foundation, then eyes! If you put primer and a coat of foundation on, not a thick, defined coat, just a cover, once over your face, it helps act as more primer for all of your makeup. You'll have to add more after a few steps, but I like to do one coat, first. Then I get started on the art of brows and eyeshadow. Thank God for those girls in that group!!

2. When you are applying eye shadow, especially for pigments or bright colors, the crease brush and lining/blending brushes are a must! The deluxe brush is great, too. That is a regular sized shadow brush to most of us, but I have found it also takes a lot of the pigment off that just holds on to the bristles. Not the brush's fault, though. Just happens with that size. Makes sense why it didn't work all those years I tried to obtain crease brush coverage with a deluxe brush. The smaller brushes work better for more deliberate color on your lids and creases. The deluxe brush has proven to be very good for contouring small areas, though! Sides of your nose, under your nose, down the sides of your temple, so on, it is a great size for those small areas that need a good coat of bronzer. Then use the blending buds to really tiw it into the rest of your face. As you can see, the brushes will become your best friends quickly, they all do a little bit of everything!

3. Overall, I have discovered that pretty much all eye makeup goes on better if you dab it on softly rather than smear it on. The color just holds better on the surface and lasts longer. It also leaves less lines and makes blending easier. Brush the color gently onto the end of your brush and apply the color slowly, like you were painting;) More is more, here. Don't try to conserve too much. If you need it, use it. And again, it helps a ton to have great brushes to use to help the conservation effort!

4. Clean your brushes with baby soap. For real. I learned that when I first signed on with Younique, from my awesome coach. I personally get a little bowl of water, rinse my brushes ouy under the faucet to get as much color out as I can, and then squeeze a drop of baby wash right onto the bristles. Massage the base eith my fingers, rinse it in the bowl of water, repeat. Until they are as clean as they can get. I have two toddlers, I usually have some baby soap laying around and she is right, it works great!

5. Curl your eyelashes before you put on mascara. Maybe I am the only one on the planet, but I didn't know there was a right way, apparently before is the right way. With 3D Fiber Lashes, I have obviously started doing mine before and I have much better results.

6. Okay, so one of those girls on that page told me this and I feel like it is gold, so I am going to give away her secret. If you do your brows, the technique I love most is the one that looks like this...with the super natural lighter area behind the hairs at the inner corner....

Well, she had them. The perfect ones. So I asked her what she did and she told me the coolest way. Super easy, too! Draw the bottom arch line all the way from outer corner of your brow, wherever you want it to end, to where you want your brow to stop on your noseline with your brow liner. If you are new to brows, I encourage you to check out the makeup maps tab up there and some YouTube videos, we all started somewhere. Briws are a process. Anyways, get the bottom arches matching and such. Then, lightly line the upper arch from outer arch inward, fading as you get closer to the inner corner. Use either a dip brow, or a brow palette, or even just the right colored eye shadow and an angled brush. Fill the rest in by making small, deliberate strokes like you were painting ;) then as you get closer to the inner corner, blend the brow color even lighter until it fades into the point you stopped the bottom arch line at. The point is NOT to blend the brow color all the way to where you want your brow to appear to start. Let your real brows do that part. If you have brow gel, brush over the hairs in the inner corner and blend them into the brow color. Once you have darkned your own hairs, the blending of the brow shadow ALMOST all the way into your real brows looks super clean and natural! I hope that makes sense. Like I said, brows aren't easy. Talking about them isn't either!! Do some research and some practice. Practice definitely makes perfect here. It gets easier. I've still got a long way to go, but it is becoming a quicker task and more fun each day!!

Here is a great place to start....

So, those are a few goodies I wanted to share with y'all. They could change by tomorrow, but lately they have worked really well for me. This is such a learning process. Somedays, I just don't even want to try to get it alllll right. But then, I get started, following a good guideline from start to finish, and every day I improve and learn something new. And get quicker. Just imagine what life would be like if we were all our own personal makeup artists :)

Thanks for that, Younique. You sure are a fun hobby to have around! On that note, I suppose I will get to it...

Have a great Thursday, y'all!
